The Body as The Vessel
Artist Statement: Samantha Gill
What does it mean to meld the body and the vessel as one? To me, the body and the vessel intermingling and complimenting one another is a perfect meld between these two concepts. This ceramic body of work surrounds the body as the vessel and how the components of the vessel and body interact. We all have a body and morphing the ideas of what the body can meld into is of extreme focus with this series. When thinking about ideas for these pieces I was exploring feelings of weight, emptiness, and containing things; being a vessel. This series incorporates nature motifs and deep rich tones and some pops of bright colors. These ceramic vessels incorporate textures and surfaces depicting subjects such as topography, wood grain, moss, and water to represent ecology through clay.
